It’s a few years now since we first discovered Posterlounge here at Love French Style Blog when we purchased this lovely Artichoke print and we have been fans ever since. It seemed like a great choice for us as we love a hint of green in our decor and we are huge fans of cooking and gardening too.
Finding the right affordable artwork can be a bit of a minefield, where on earth to start! Choosing Artwork to reflect your surroundings might seem a bit obvious but it is a great place to start when choosing new artwork for your home decor.

Searching for Art Themes
There are literally thousands of pieces of art and photography to choose from on Posterlounge’s site. You can search by theme or keyword and the search results are pretty detailed so you won’t have to trawl through hundreds of paintings to get to the right style. You can also search by artist name and there are lots of prints by some of the famous artists of all time as well as newer, undiscovered ones. I’ve chosen to focus on choosing artwork to reflect your surroundings as I think it makes a nice place to begin your artwork collection.
Where to Start
For example, if you live in the countryside you might like to consider, as we have, bringing some of that glorious nature outside indoors. Robins, rabbits, wildflowers or landscapes might be a good place to start. By the river then you might search under boats, bridges or sunsets? Or in a city, perhaps a beautiful skyline or some nice trendy monochrome quotes to join your succulents on a wall shelving unit.
A few things to consider –
- Think about your own surroundings and what you might naturally see on the doorstep. These wildlife prints are perfect for a French country cottage but maybe you see boats or a city skyline out of your windows. Alternatively, adding artwork can add an edge of fantasy and illusion to your home decor so don’t feel you have to suit your surroundings we just feel it’s a nice place to start your search.
- Shout loud and proud! While a picture rail is the perfect place to display smaller print in a living room or bathroom space, a larger sized canvas can really change the look and feel of a room. Perhaps try to find a print that can become a real centrepiece on an otherwise empty space or build up a collection of small prints and curate them to sit nicely together.
- Colour is everything. To make sure your artwork fits in effortlessly with your existing furnishings, try to marry colours or choose a perfectly contrasting tone in your new canvasses. Think pops of yellow for spring and rich blues while pinks and greens will look romantic and blousy for summer. Maybe you have a beautiful old rug that you’d like to harmonise with or a beautiful view?
Our French Country Style Art Choice
With the cheerful daffodils in bloom and the pompom tree in the garden about to go pop, it seemed a natural choice for us to choose something to reflect that in our French country cottage. So, here are two of our seasonal favourites from the current Posterlounge collection. Aren’t they adorable?
We love this handsome Robin Red Breast Canvas from Posterlounge for the kitchen, he’s a lovely reminder of all the spring activity in the garden at the moment.
The details are perfect as are the gentle watercolours – a real talking point over oeufs à la coque in the morning!
We also are head over heels about hares. Such a rare creature to see and this time of year, they are out in full force. This gorgeous hare print starts from £4.95 for a poster, isn’t she so pretty!
Posterlounge prices are really great prices too making affordable art accessible to everyone. A poster starts from under £10 so if you’re a fan of second hand shops or antiques you could pick up and renovate some old frames with a lick or paint and have some truly fabulous, unique artwork. Having great artwork on the walls can be so uplifting so if you are in need of some colour on your walls or fancy a restyle then take a look at the rest of the collection at Posterlounge here.
