The history of Sophie the giraffe is a lovely one. She was first manufactured in 1961 by Monsieur Rampeau who discovered that in taking the sap from the hevea tree he could create a rubber like substance from which Sophie could be made. She’s not changed much since that first initial design from that day Mamans all over France fell en amour with her. We also owned one of these classic French toys and to be honest it was a godsend during the dribbling, red cheeked teething phase. What’s more Sophie is made from natural fibres so risk free for babies to chow down on when teeth are coming through.
Made from 100% natural rubber derived from the sap of the Hevea tree, Sophie’s flexible, renewable, natural materials and non-toxic paint mean she is a safe and natural teething toy for your little one.
As you may or may not know every day of the year in France is named after a Saint. The first Sophie was made on 25th May which is Ste Sophie, hence this pretty little giraffe’s name!

I didn’t even know it was French and played with this every day for about five years when I was small!
