Winter is a great time to have a go at Creating a Cosy Living Room with Colour and Texture. Experiment with warm lighting and seasonal colours to bring a homely feel to your living room. Here’s a few of my favourite items from the High Street -.
Upgrading your upholstery is a fast track way to get onboard with the new season’s trends. It can also be a great way to add new colour and texture to your living room. I love some of the natural sheepskin rugs on the High Street at the moment like these beautiful Jacob Sheep Fleece Rugs from Lambland UK. And why stop at having them underfoot, a lovely natural sheepskin can look great slung over an armchair in front of the fireplace too.
Or, you could try adding dark and moody greys to your living room scheme, on trend and in keeping with the cosy winter ambience. I think this charcoal grey washed cotton tablecloth and napkin set from Zara Home would look beautiful on a winter supper table.
If you’ve been putting up with uncomfortable seating in your living room for a while then why not make Autumn Winter 2016 the moment to shop around for a cosy winter sofa. I always opt for a nice simple design, usually plain and in natural linen shades. It’s obviously an investment but shopping for a new season sofa is such a joy, there’s so much choice. I’m so impressed with the range of stylish corner sofas available, I just love the idea of the whole family snuggling together around the fire on one don’t you?
If you choose a plain fabric on your sofa then why not accessorise for the season with some colourful cushions? I really like the rug inspired Kilim type cushions around at the moment like these beautiful Gold and Black Caernarfon tapestry cushions handmade in Wales.
Chic Copper Accents
I adore the range of little side tables in copper, brass and chrome that are so popular this season. I think they look so pretty next to a cosy armchair with a favourite book or winter bloom on. I think this pretty nest of copper tables ticks all the right boxes!
You could also try adding other metallic accents to your living room scheme this season with antique candle holders or trinket boxes in warm, metallic tones to create interesting displays. Placing your tealights on top of a small mirror is also a great way to create a twinkling cosy feel in the evening.
The Perfect Ambience
Getting the ambience right is so important during the winter months when the days can be long and dark. I think the trend for metallic pendant lights without shades is a really beautiful one. I am currently in love with these Bampton Glassless Pendant Lights from Rowen and Wren to add some elegant rustic-chic to the living room.
This season goes hand in hand with neatly stacked wood and log baskets all beautifully arranged wood around a fireplace. Fear not, if you don’t actually have a woodburner in your home then you can create a focal point with natural wood all the same. I think hand carved wooden bowls, wooden lamp bases and chunky natural wood coffee tables all add a natural element that exudes warmth and style during the long winter months.
And finally, as it’s the little details that make all the difference, I just love these handmade pottery cups for warming cocoa. Such beautiful colours x
