I just love Autumn – after all the summer months in the garden it’s the perfect time to cosy up your home ready for the winter ahead. I have been looking for a beautiful black and white wool rug for some time now. I really wanted a handweaved Moroccan rug but with so much choice and so many factory made I didn’t know which to choose. Then I finally discovered a wonderful rug business called Sukhi .
Sukhi invest and care about the local communities where their rugs are made to ensure the women behind them are in well paid jobs and have the chance of a career outside of home. Each one is handmade using plush sheepswool to give them a super soft finish
that feels just amazing under foot.
Here is a video to see more about how each Sukhi handweaved Moroccan rug is made.
The design I chose is a Beni Ourain rug and production time was around 3 months. Prices start from around 271$ which is well worth it given the beautifully soft wool the rugs are made from, the fact they are handweaved and the joy of knowing you have a truly original item. I adore the simple design of our Naima berber rug which slots into any interior, even a French one, with such style.
I’m not sure which of the Sukhi lovely, talented and inspiring ladies made our particular rug and this is but a few of them – but thank you all of you!
– There are so many reasons to buy direct from Artisans in Morocco.
– These mothers and wives are based deepin the Atlas Mountains.
– In buying a rug direct from them, you’re helping to sustain traditional crafts and help local people earn money for their talent.
– Sukhi rug makers are well paid and adore working together in teams of women to create beautiful rugs.
Merci Beaucoup!
With beautiful fringing and thick, luxurious sheepswool, our rug has become a favourite place to lie down with a book, play, snooze and sink into in front of the woodburner.
Look at this cheeky little one moving in to enjoy the comfort!!!
