I’m working in collaboration with Jean Dubost for this post on creating and serving up a perfect aperitif.
A Little History about Jean Dubost Brand –
Jean Dubost are a French homewares brand who combine elegant French style and quality to create irresistibly chic French tableware. Coutellerie Jean Dubost was founded in 1920 by Pierre Dubost and Marcelle Colas Pradel in Thiers tucked away in the rural mountains. From humble beginnings as knife makers, the Dubost family became famous for their knives that wore their trademark toucan on the blade. The founder’s son, Jean Dubost eventally took over the business and grew it into the successful French homewares brand it is today. They pride themselves on being made 100% French and I personally adore their collection of tableware.
You may well know of the Jean Dubost brand for their gorgeous French steak knives with the classic Laguiole bug on the handle. In fact the Jean Dubost brand is now made up of several lines including Pradel kitchen knives. Their collection includes Jean Dubost steak knives, artisan cutlery sets and beautifully crafted olive wood utensils and accessories, Jean Dubost has become one of my favourite French brands. They also have lots of fabulous cheese knife gifts and wedding present ideas with a certain je ne sais quoi about them.
When Serving An Aperitif Here Are My Top Tips
1. Serve Nibbles Beautifully
I love the Jean Dubost Olive Wood Boards and Utensils for serving an Aperitif. Melon and Parma Ham, Cream Cheese and Salmon Rolls or Olives and Almonds, present your nibbles beautifully for lovely French style wow factor.
2. Serve Drinks in the Correct Glasses
Im not a fan of champagne in a tumbler nor a g and t in a wine glass. Choose the right glass for your drinks and serve them at the right temperature for a million hostess with the mostess points! Don’t forget to make the ice!
Champagne – flute or coupe
Cocktail – Cocktail Glass
Spirits – Tall for Vodka, short for whisky, round or tall for gin.
Beers – Slim Beer Glasses
White Wine – Small Wine Glass
Red Wine – Large Wine Glass
Soda – Any Glass
Be sure to pass the drinks and bites around!
Relax and enjoy the company! No point in hosting an evening you can’t enjoy so live in the moment!
Which Servers to Choose
When it comes to serving up tasty bites, I love a French serving board or platter.
Here are a few of my favourite homeware items from Jean Dubost current French homewares collection, I think you’ll agree, the beautiful hand-crafted implements and utensils are just stunning for summer aperitifs with friends.
A French classic, green olives stuffed with almonds is the perfect accompaniment to a chilled glass of Pineau des Charentes. Think about choosing local produce to whet the appetite of your guests whether they’re friends or paying holiday makers.
A speciality of the Poitou Charentes region where I live is the Tourteau Fromager…We often treat drinks guests to it, so delicious!
A classic combination from the Charentes region is also Charentais melon and cured ham, delicious!
Hand made artisan chorizo from the Poitou Charentes, the perfect pre dinner nibble…
With some careful planning you too can serve up the perfect aperitif to your friends or guests.
